A skilled and experienced electrician can choose to be under one of the different types of electrician jobs: self employed, employed in an electrical contractor company or teaching and training.
Basically, a person is required to undergo sufficient education from an accredited school that offers electrician courses and training programs. Typically, these programs last for two to three years. Aside from classroom training, the student will also be provided with job appointment opportunities. Once the student finishes the course or training, he needs to pass a licensure examination in order to become a real, licensed electrician. Moreover, those who fail the exam but still want to use their skills to earn should state their status to clients and employers.
An electrician can choose to be self employed. In fact, a lot of electricians choose to work in such setup. Licensed electricians can easily put up their own business and find their own clients. They can decide on what type of service they want to render, if they want to focus on residential or commercial, or both. However, most electricians would choose to focus on one as this will provide room for efficiencies and expansion of customer base.
Meanwhile, an electrician can also choose to work for a contractor. Although working without a boss seems to be promising, working for a company provides stability and security that the electrician will get a regular income. This is a good way to start a career and gain further experience. Essentially, an already established contractor has already made ties with construction, renovation and builder firms. These business partners work together to finish a huge project and eventually, an employed electrician will not miss an opportunity.
Moreover, licensed electricians can also become the instructors in skills schools or college themselves. Normally, electrician trainers teach subjects in basic wiring installation, maintenance and checkup. They also teach how to read electrical schematics, among others. Aside from teaching aspiring electricians, they also facilitate safety trainings for construction workers, building operators, factory employees and even hobbyists. For a licensed electrician to become a trainer or instructor, he has to complete a certification program and earn teaching units in adult education. Learning about dealing with and teaching adults can be considered as a necessary action in order for him to transition efficiently to becoming a teacher.
